late friday night, scott was on his way home from the yard on his motorcycle. he is currently on swings so he gets home around midnight or so....he was coming thru one of the 2 small towns on his way home when he found this dog walking right down the middle of the highway. cars were zipping by on both sides and no one was stopping. but scott did.
he coaxed him out of the street and got a rope on him for a leash. walked up and down the street, thinking someone would be out looking for him, but no one came.
he called me thinking that i would be worried and wondering where he was, but i was dead to the world asleep. had no idea he was late. he explained the situation and then he saw some cops so he said he was going to talk to them and he would call me back. i fell right back to sleep.
scott called back and said that the cops couldn't help him with the dog. (insert my surprised face here.) i asked about tags, but all he had was a rabies tag and an invisible fence collar. quinn called the vet's number but there was no answer so quinn and i got up and went out to get the dog. we couldn't just leave him out there to be killed so off we went.
got to the next town to find scott and this little guy sitting on the curb with the bike's hazards on waiting for me. so scott put him in with us and off we all went.
because i didn't know anything about this dog, we decided to keep him in the basement away from our troop. scott said that he would stay with him and sleep on the futon. so we got him some food and water. and let me tell you, he loved the dogs grain free food. he scarfed it down. we made him this bed on the floor and let them be for the night.
the next morning we were all up bright and early to check on our little visitor. we gave him some more food and called the vet's number on his rabies tag. they told us his name. jackson and that he was 10 years old and he was up to date on all his shots. which was a relief cuz i was ready to keep him if i found out he belonged to jerks.
the owner called and was surprised to hear he was in the next town over. she thought he walked all that way til scott explained it to her. i guess her roommate had let him out the night before but he didn't come back so she left the owner a note but the owner didn't see it so she had no idea he was missing til morning. jackson has decided that a little shock from the invisible collar is worth an adventure. so he gets out alot. she came right over and picked him up. she was very nice and very thankful for all that we did.
scott said i made him this way. he's right. i am the crazy lady who waits outside your car and makes sure your dog doesn't pass out from heat exhaustion while you buy toilet paper in walmart on a 100' day. i will call the cops if you do this and i have done it several times.
i'm the crazy lady who is always looking at dogs tied up outside and wondering if they have enough water and how long have they been out there. i worry about all the cats i see wandering around outside all day.
i can't turn it off.
i care a lot for animals and it's obviously rubbed off on my family and i am damn proud of it and scott for saving this little guy from harm.
