we all {heart} dogs.

late friday night, scott was on his way home from the yard on his motorcycle.  he is currently on swings so he gets home around midnight or so....he was coming thru one of the 2 small towns on his way home when he found this dog walking right down the middle of the highway.  cars were zipping by on both sides and no one was stopping.  but scott did.

he coaxed him out of the street and got a rope on him for a leash.  walked up and down the street, thinking someone would be out looking for him, but no one came.

he called me thinking that i would be worried and wondering where he was, but i was dead to the world asleep.  had no idea he was late.  he explained the situation and then he saw some cops so he said he was going to talk to them and he would call me back.  i fell right back to sleep.

scott called back and said that the cops couldn't help him with the dog. (insert my surprised face here.)  i asked about tags, but all he had was a rabies tag and an invisible fence collar. quinn called the vet's number but there was no answer so quinn and i got up and went out to get the dog.  we couldn't just leave him out there to be killed so off we went.

got to the next town to find scott and this little guy sitting on the curb with the bike's hazards on waiting for me.  so scott put him in with us and off we all went.

because i didn't know anything about this dog, we decided to keep him in the basement away from our troop.  scott said that he would stay with him and sleep on the futon.  so we got him some food and water.  and let me tell you, he loved the dogs grain free food.  he scarfed it down.  we made him this bed on the floor and let them be for the night.

the next morning we were all up bright and early to check on our little visitor.  we gave him some more food and called the vet's number on his rabies tag.  they told us his name.  jackson and that he was 10 years old and he was up to date on all his shots.  which was a relief cuz i was ready to keep him if i found out he belonged to jerks.

the owner called and was surprised to hear he was in the next town over.  she thought he walked all that way til scott explained it to her.  i guess her roommate had let him out the night before but he didn't come back so she left the owner a note but the owner didn't see it so she had no idea he was missing til  morning. jackson has decided that a little shock from the invisible collar is worth an adventure.  so he gets out alot.  she came right over and picked him up.  she was very nice and very thankful for all that we did.

scott said i made him this way.  he's right.  i am the crazy lady who waits outside your car and makes sure your dog doesn't pass out from heat exhaustion while you buy toilet paper in walmart on a 100' day.   i will call the cops if you do this and i have done it several times.

i'm the crazy lady who is always looking at dogs tied up outside and wondering if they have enough water and how long have they been out there.   i worry about all the cats i see wandering around outside all day.

i can't turn it off.

i care a lot for animals and it's obviously rubbed off on my family and i am damn proud of it and scott for saving this little guy from harm.

my first day in the life.

late on may 30th, i decided to join ali edwards for her "day in the life".  i am always in awe of this project and i love to look at everyone's days.  so i finally decided to do it.  i carried my camera upstairs so it would be right there when i woke up on the 31st.  i tried to take a photo of the alarm clock when scott got up, 4:15 am but it was very blurry.  and then when quinn got up, another photo, but  it was also very blurry so my day starts out with the  daily feeding of bob at 7 am.  our beloved gold fish.  he's at least 8 years old cuz he moved here with us.  we so love bob.

because i am not an owner of photoshop and i am digitally challenged at time, i just used picasa to create a short description of the photo and then i created a collage.  easy peasy and it works for me.

here are my finished printed collages.  some of the printing came out light, not sure why, but i'm not wasting more ink and paper.  if i do this again, i will rethink how i did the project.

i am just going to put them back to back in a protector in my project life album in the month of may  and label it with an avery index tab thingy.

i am most happy with results.  i liked doing this project very much.  at times i found myself without a camera that would have been good shots of the day like brock's girlfriend over and scott coming home.  next time for those.

well, the skies just opened up, i guess the rain from hurricane andera is here.  just please no hurricane force winds.  i hate wind.  i think it's from living on the plains for so long...wind is bad on the plains.

so any super fun plans for your weekend?  we might go car shopping if the rain stops.  we are thinking about giving brock my beloved explorer to take to college....that means we will need a new family car.  i have absolutely no idea what i want.  they are too fancy for me and full of crap we won't use...so car shopping this  time is definitely sucking.  i am thinking a wagon and a couple of horses might be a better fit for me....

enjoy your weekend!

right now: my gardens

my regulars know that i do not like summer, but i do love to garden and farm and most recently i have taken up canning.  i thought maybe you might like seeing where all my time has been going to here lately.  sorry nothing crafty, only planting and tending to.

buttercrunch lettuce growing in containers

herbs:  rosemary, blooming chives, tarragon. thyme, oregano, basil.  i have already made 2 batches of compound butter from these.  so good on corn on the cob.

tomatoes:  early girl, sun start, sunsugar, cherokee purple, plum-romas.  we are almost out of the spaghetti sauce i canned last season, so i have big hopes for this crop.  please, no blight this year.  and i would love to have enough to can tomato soup this fall.

we added 2 more boxes this year.  i love having the extra space.  we planted carrot and green beans in this extra space.  i also bought pumpkin seeds but i ran out of space.

i found that metal bucket with the herbs in it in the trash in navy housing.  i carried it back home on my walk and when we were  moving here, the movers refused to pack it cuz they saw it as junk.  as you can see, i won that battle...

i seen this idea in a bird book so i had scott put the bird bath in this bucket and planted flowers.  i can't wait til they start spilling over the sides.

after the shed was re-sided scott hung up these old windows and we bought the planters from lowes.  love looking out my window and seeing these.  my dear sweet mattie is buried under those daylillies.

i am already rethinking what i planted in these planters.  i am thinking that sweet potato vine is going to take over the little plants i put in too, so next year maybe only 1 vine and bigger flowers instead.  we'll see how it looks in a month or so.

this is my "in process" bed. it was totally grown over with weeds and prickly bushes, bittersweet, shumack....so we cleaned it out and i am filling it in each year with more stuff, and still battling those weeds. persistent little buggers they are.

if anyone lives close to me, this bed needs to be thinned out. so bring your wheelbarrow and i will fill it up.  i was going to mulch this, but now there is no point til next spring.  can't see the dirt. the peonies here are about to bust, one of my favorites.  right now, just the iris's are blooming.

we repainted this door over the winter.  it's the original door to our house and it was white and i love the damn thing.  the paint had all come off so i picked out this red.  everyone needs a red door.

geraniums line my front steps and huge black urns sit at the bottom with daises and petunias.  we are in the process of repainting the porch. it's our little summer project.

my junker buddy, brad, brought me this trike last year.  today scott wound lights around it, can't wait to see it all lit tonight.  my blue bike has lights too.  i am going to hang a metal bucket with some flowers from the handle.

these are spiders, i was told.  these were given to me right after i moved here.  i wish i would have never taken these plants.  they take over where ever they are planted.  i pull them out by the handfuls every year.

my whole front bed.  soon the daisies, day lilies, and poppies will be in bloom

this is the side yard bed. it's a shade bed and it needs thinning too.  i have a red wagon tucked in here with impatiens.  that wagon was the boys' wagon.  this year when i moved it to rake the bottom came apart from rust.

got our front porch furniture out.  i moved some panises in here to live thru the hot summer and i have new guinea impatiens in planter boxes on the shelf.

i have lots of different iris in my beds.  they were planted before i moved here.

i keep a gardening journal that i write in each season and refer back to the following year.  that way there is no guessing what i planted or where or how much i need.  my little brain appreciates the reminder each year.
happy gardening.

calendar birthday card.

i loved this card the minute i saw it.  i had to buy the supplies just to make this card.  so i made this card for stacy's son's 17th birthday.  and then forgot to sign it.  i was so worried about getting a shot of it before i stuffed it in the envelope that i forgot to sign it.  too funny.  what's funnier?  stacy sends me cards all the time that she forgets to sign.  so i blame her, it's all her fault.

supplies: amy tangerine calendar stamp
hero arts it's your day clear stamps
random star stamps from PTI
kraft & rustic white cardstock PTI

i really wanted to make a few birthday cards for each month at the shelter, but they haven't been moving very well so i decided not to.  i didn't want to be stuck with lots of these cards.  but it would be super cute to do halloween or christmas ones.

i just circled the day of derek's birthday with a sparkly pen.  i can't believe this kid is 17.  when i met stacy she was pregnant with avery jane.  who was born right after 9-11.

quinn has another track meet today.  so scott and i are going to have a quiet dinner....i took out some shrimp.  thinking a spicy red sauce with peppers and onions over pasta....

thanks for stopping by.  enjoy your day.

project life weeks 8 & 9.

week 8 at a glance.

hold onto your hats, here are 2 more wild and crazy weeks at the severs' house.

taxes, no explanation there.  totally scott's job, although i think he likes doing them.  after all he was the finance dude on the uss pittsburgh.  a shot from quinn's state swim competition and a shot of some animal love.  you know when you are a dog, you have to take your cat-butt-sniffs when you get the chance.

quinn doing his nightly chore of filling the upstairs humidifier.  scott still working on the kitchen ceiling.  more snow and me walking on the treadmill.  i'd had enough of the elliptical machine and had really started missing my outside daily walks by this time.  there is more journaling under the snow tree photo. i attached it with washi tape.

week 9.

we are stalking the eagles again.  this snap is before the eggs hatched.  quinn had  a snow day, but i still had to work cleaning the bathroom.  and the 28th was my beloved grandmother's birthday.  she has been gone 19 years.  i really wanted her to be in my PL.  so i scanned a photo from their anniversary, the last time i saw her alive.  that "i love you" tag is from michael's recollections.

scott told me about that big snow pile so i had to include that for this week.  we had lots of snow this winter. quinn went to a engineering expo at a college with his leadership group.  to say he loved it, would be an understatement.  we've always said that quinn would be an awesome engineer or architect.  finally the kitchen ceiling is all scraped and last, scott working on quinn's puter without knowing that quinn is mocking him.  he cracks me up!  he definitely keeps scott and i on our toes these days.

today is quinn's first track meet.  he made the pole vault team and he he will run the 800m.  i packed him lots of  good snacks.

ok that's it for me this week.  tomorrow i am off to the commissary for food and other shopping and friday is my CK convention day.  wahhoo!!  meeting my friend tina for some paper and stamp gabbing and a little ppl watching.  i am most excited!!  today i am thinking about what i should wear and friday when i get there i will wonder why i put so much effort into that after seeing what other ppl are wearing....

>"<

have a super sparkly day and weekend!!
